1. 항균성(antibacterial, antifungal): 다양한 박테리아와 곰팡이 균의 생장을 억제하여 여드름, 습진, 건선의 천연 치유제로 사용됨.

2. 안정화제(Stabilizer): 화학 과정 중 중합(polymerization) 과정에 대한 안정화 능력이 우수하여 구형 비드형태의 아크릴 아미드 생성에 사용됨.

→다시말해 기능성 성분의 피부 침투와 효능을 증감하기 위한 화학적 수송매개체(transport agent)로서 사용된다. 피부에 침투가 어려운 기능성 성분, 산화가 빨리 일어나는 까다로운 성분을 나노 크기의 동그란 구 형태로 만들어주면 효과가 배가가 된다. 가장 좋은 예가 산화가 잘 일어나는 레티놀이다.
